Templar Knights – Honor, Loyalty, Integrity
In this game, a well-defended city is immune from anything an enemy can throw at it: except gold loss. Let me say right now that gold loss is meaningless. We all farm; farming results in more gold that we as an alliance can use. When you lose gold, just ask. Protecting your other resources requires attention to your storehouse and shrinking powder levels. If you do decide to protect your gold, and send the attacking knight home defeated and weeping like a baby, use of the watchtower, wall level, and an experienced knight are your best tools. But first, the most important defenseÉ hiding your army.
No army goes into battle when at a disadvantage. In fact, I was taught not to commit my troops in the real world unless I had at least a 3 to 1 advantage over the opposing force. In this game, this rule can get a little complicated. With various tiers of troops (covered in another article), knowing what kinds of troops you need is very important. For example, sending 1,000 cavalry into an attacking force with 1000 battering rams is simply suicide. In any case, our policy in this alliance is to keep your troops hidden unless instructed to unhide them by a VC or the chancellor. And this wonÕt happen unless we have good intelligence about the attacking force.
Your army is hidden by default. To check to make sure it is still hidden, tap your castle. Then tap the Overview tab. You will see the window shown below. The arrow is pointing at the on/off slide for army hiding. Make sure it is always on.

Figure A
The storehouse is a building constructed within your wall. Each storehouse level protects 100,000 units of wood, stone, and ore: the protected resources. You can see your protection level by tapping the resource bar at the top of your city window, shown in first graphic below. The second graphic shows where to find the protection level in the resources window. In this alliance, all storehouses should be at level 6 or above (protection level of at least 600,000). Further, research of shrinking powder should progress steadily to increase the protection levels. Each shrinking powder level increases protection by 10%. If your resource amounts exceed the protection level, share with others. Hoarding results in resource loss.

Figure C
Once your might is large enough, your officers might want you to occasionally destroy an incoming army. However, success in battle depends on good intelligence and the strength of your wall. Intelligence about the approaching army is gathered by using the watchtower. Also built within the wall, this building can provide information about the size and makeup of the attacking force: if the watchtower is at a high enough level. DO NOT rely on a level less than 7 to make a decision whether or not to unhide your troops. We will use the guidelines provided in the article Force ComparisonsÉ to decide whether your forces—or reinforced forces—are able to defeat the attacking force.
In addition to army might, two additional factors affect your ability to defeat an enemy. The first is wall level. Although wall might is a waste of resources, wall level is valuable. Each time you increase your wall level, a defensive strength bonus is added to your city. I havenÕt found the exact number, but based on other bonuses in this game, I estimate the bonus at 5% to 10% per level. So the higher the wall level, the greater your chance of victory.
The final army victory element is the knight in the Marshal position in Knights Hall. The higher the knightÕs experience level, the better chance you have of victory.
As you can see, there are several elements that contribute to city defense. ItÕs important to understand these factors so you can defend your city and so you can interpret the intelligence scouts return prior to attacking your enemyÕs city.
